"... we had the most successful online orientation ever ...
We love Auto Register!
"

Auto-register is a CGI program that allows specified users to seamlessly enter a given course even if they have not already been added to the course.

Which users have access to which courses can be controlled in several ways, including: by WebCT ID format; by a column in the global database; by registered courses; by courses; by a list of WebCT IDs contained in a file; by a custom program.

For example, if you have a training course with course ID "planet" that all students are allowed to access and you have a column in your global database called "Role" then you would:

 • specify that users with a role of student are allowed to auto-register in planet, and
 • make a link like the following on a web page (or as a bookmark or an announcement) training course

When a user clicks the link:

 • if they are already registered in planet then they are taken straight to planet's home page
 • if they are a student and not already registered in planet then they are seamlessly added to planet and then taken to planet's home page
 • if they are not a student and are not already registered in planet, then they are re-directed to a page with information about planet

Other examples of the application of auto-register are:

 • giving users who are registered in one course access to revision material in another course
 • letting all students in a particular department access a common area
 • allowing staff to access EEO or professional development courses
 • allowing all users to access Library courses

Updates:

 • Version 0.2 introduced a web-based administrative interface for enabling/disabling auto-registration in courses where anyone may have access.
